Dinner and dance to tackle North Lincolnshire social isolation

Over 140 residents joined North Lincs Homes for an afternoon of singing, dancing and the conga at this year’s dine and dance event aimed at tackling social isolation.

Every year the Tenancy Support Team arranges this free event for residents aged over 55.

Music through the ages was played and everyone enjoyed a pie and pea lunch at Heslam Park, Rugby Club, Scunthorpe on Monday 10th November.

Staff dressed up to the nine’s in their finest retro gear from 1920’s flapper girls to the psychedelic colours of the 60’s.

With just over 140 residents joining in the fun, it was the largest dine and dance event the Social Landlord has arranged for the over 55’s yet.

Maureen Pettit, 67, said: “It’s absolutely brilliant, this is my first time here and the disco is playing my sort of music.”

Iris, 81, said: “It’s been brilliant getting to talk to everyone and the best part of the day has been the meal.”

Karen Cowan, Head of Customer and Support Services, said: “The Dine and Dance event is about giving something back to local communities and with a third of our tenants aged over 55 it’s a great way to encourage people to socialise and have a bit of fun.

“We do this each year as a way to tackle loneliness and social isolation as we’ve found some people can spend a lot of time on their own and there is often a fear of going out.

“This has been our biggest Dine and Dance event yet. We started it four years ago with just 70 residents coming along, and each year it grows and grows which is great to see.”
