The four young women were threatened by Admassu in the attack before quickly reporting the horrific incidents to police.

Officers then chased the armed Admassu through the streets and arrested him nearby with the stolen property still on him.

PC Lucy Garside, who investigated the incidents, said: “Admassu has been punished for his despicable actions, and the threat he poses to others has been removed from the community.

“An investigation was quickly launched after we received reports that a man had attacked and threatened four young women in Sheffield city centre last October.

“Admassu used violence to intimidate and prey on his victims for personal gain. I would like to thank the brave women involved for reporting the traumatic incidents so quickly, giving the attending officers opportunity to arrest the suspect nearby with the stolen property still on him.

“The arresting officer, PC Boldero knew the suspect was armed with a weapon and still bravely gave chase to apprehend him.”

Admassu appeared at Sheffield Crown court on Friday and was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to four sex offences, four robberies and a wounding.

He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
