Taylor Bingham, 13, of Woodland Way, Denaby Main, had a terrible accident in January when someone on an off-road bike lost control and was catapulted into the air before landing on the teenager breaking his collar bone and his leg in several places before speeding off.

A passer-by called his granddad Derek Bingham and he sped to scene from his Hill Top Road home as paramedics were tending to his injured grandson.

He said: “Taylor was very badly hurt and our only concern was to get him the proper treatment and fast. The paramedics and other ambulance crew had done all they could and the air ambulance was called for.”

The YAA crew sprang into action and airlifted the injured teenager to Sheffield Children’s Hospital where he had three emergency operations and two weeks ago a fourth, which involved fixing a steel frame to Taylor’s leg.

Taylor’s granddad said he could not thank YAA enough and added: “I would like to thank the Air Ambulance crew and staff for what they did. I don’t know what would have happened without them. I’d also like to thank everyone who donated to our fundraising effort. So far we’ve raised £2,233.”

Earlier this month Taylor was joined by his seven-year-old brother Riley, who suffers from the rare condition, Smith-Magenis syndrome – a developmental disorder that affects many parts of the body with features including mild to moderate intellectual disability, delayed speech and language skills – to present the latest cheque to YAA.
