sDearne residents are helping Barnsley Council to design services as part of a pioneering new approach.
The integrated services approach pilot, called ‘the Dearne Approach’, is based on community led research and has just completed its first year.
Councillor Alan Gardiner, chair of the Dearne Approach Steering Group, said: “The Dearne Approach focuses on the communities living in Thurnscoe, Goldthorpe, Bolton-upon-Dearne and Highgate.”
He said 22 residents in the areas have been recruited and trained as community researchers. They collected the opinions of over 600 local people.
He said: “Now we’re at the end of year one, community engagement is complete, and it’s time for capacity building, prioritisation and service design, followed by delivery.”
