Deaf Trust magnificent seven take on Wolf Run for charity

The seven employees, made up from various areas of the trust, worked together on the recent challenge, finishing in two-and-a-half hours.

A ‘wolf’ run is an anagram for the event – which consists of woods, obstacles, lakes and fields and is 10km long. On the run there is lots of mud, climbing, swimming, and crawling.

Executive principal of the trust, Alexis Johnson, said: “What an amazing achievement. The fact that this group took time out, in their own time, to raise money to help to improve our residential offering for deaf pupils, at their place of work is simply fantastic.

“They spent two and a half hours slogging through 10 km of mud and were still smiling at the end of it, what a team!”

Doncaster Deaf Trust is running a major public fundraising appeal to help them to raise the money needed to build the new care home. The current care homes provide residential care for 52 weeks of the year for deaf children in care and for school children who need weekly or term time accomodation while they study at Doncaster School for the Deaf.

A new modern care home will ensure that young people, with sensory impairments, are provided with the opportunity to live and learn in a specialist environment.

Doncaster Deaf Trust, comprises nursery, school, college and care home. The current care home provision is at Dickson House which provides accommodation for up to six children and North Flat which caters for one child, and is used for young people who need one to one support.

Residents on the Doncaster Deaf Trust site have access to a wide range of facilities including six acres of playing fields, football pitches, tennis courts, a sports hall and a swimming pool.
