Cyclists go Dutch for anniversary challenge

An Isle work team is employing pedal power across the channel to celebrate 10 years in business and support deserving charities.

The HZPC UK Team Charity Bike Ride will cover 420 kilometres from its start line on May 29 in Crowle. Six riders aim to finish in Joure, Netherlands on June 1.

By their efforts they hope to raise £1000 each for Dementia Friends and Lindsey Lodge Hospice

Rider Richard Baker said: “HZPC UK Limited was established on April 6, 2005, so 2015 is our tenth year. The team decided to do something worthwhile to mark the occasion. We are a subsidiary of HZPC Holland BV, with worldwide headquarters in the North of the Netherlands. The Dutch are famed for their cycling.”

He continued: “It wasn’t until we looked at the map and added in time constraints that the size of the challenge became real. No-one in the team has ridden much further than the shops, so 100 mile-plus days are new. It is a real challenge.

“Everyone is out on a regular basis preparing to endure hours on the saddle,” added Richard. “We have booked a team day in Dalby Forest for the middle of May and are looking for top tips from our instructress.”

The intrepid riders include Natalie Harrison, Stacey Meggitt and Karen Baker on the Ladies Relay and Jon Rooke, David Spink and Richard Baker in the Men’s Individual Team. They hope Dutch colleagues will join them as they ride through The Netherlands.
