Cusworth 10k: Milburn on song in record-breaking win

Lee Milburn (Rotherham Harriers) showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels when racing to victory in the tenth annual Cusworth 10k on Sunday in a record-breaking time of 32 minutes 27 seconds.

Runner-up last year when a member of Doncaster Athletic Club, Milburn sliced over 30 seconds off the previous best time when finishing almost a minute ahead of Jeff Prest (Trafford) who won the vet-45 race.

Carl Ryde flew the flag for promoting club when finishing third in a time of 33.35.

Connor Anderson (Doncaster AC) won the U20s race in a time of 39.28.

Thomas Chisholm, 33rd in a time of 40.26, and Pete Vickers, 37th in 40.41, were the second and third host club runners respectively in the men's open race.

Vet-45 David Langford, who finished 30th overall in a time of 40.21 was the first Danum Harrier home. Former England 7s rugby union star Dave Scully was the second Danum finisher in 44th place.

Doncaster's Paul Bond, 75th overall in 43.53, finished third in the vet-55 race. Clubmate Pete Wade, who finished just outside of the top hundred, also bagged third place in the vet-60 race in a time of 45.47.

Mick Page, whose firm Inter Clean have sponsored every running of the race, took the honours in the vet-65 race '“ his time of 40.48 securing him 39th place overall.

Rotherham's Fiona Davies took the honours in the women's race finishing 16th overall and first in class in the vet-40 race in a time of 36.57.

She also won the club's Town Centre 5k race in the summer.

Askern's Jen Barber, third in the women's vet-60 race in a time of 1.05.34.

Steel City Striders won both team prizes.

Thomas Watt (5.40) won the supporting fun run around the grounds of the Cusworth Hall estate.

William Horobin (5.58) finished runner-up with Daisy Cragg (6.12) and Julia Stubbs (6.14) completing the top four.
