Young mum smuggled drugs and mobile phone into Doncaster prison

Sheffield Crown Court heard on January 29 how Chantelle Stubbs, aged 28, of Willow Avenue, Retford, admitted two counts of possessing class C drugs with intent to supply and one count of conveying a prohibited mobile phone and cables into HMP Lindholme, near Hatfield Woodhouse, Doncaster.

Judge Jeremy Richardson QC confirmed during a previous hearing that the case involved Stubbs taking small amounts of class C drugs and a phone into the prison and he indicated he had been minded to impose a suspended prison sentence.

He acknowldeged Stubbs had been pressured by another individual and he considered Stubbs has been separated from her baby and there are other children in her life.

Judge Richardson had said: “She’s been foolish and has bad judgement about the men she seeks to have intimacy with.”

He told Stubbs: “What is clear to me is you make terrible choices - absolutely terrible choices - in relation with the men you wish to associate with and have intimacy and I hope the probation service will send you on a better course than you have taken thus far.

"I’m minded to impose a suspended sentence. I want to make it clear to you – you get one chance in life.”

Judge Richardson had also warned if there was any further offending it would not be the court she would need to fear but social services who may take her children away.

He had told her: “Anymore crime – never mind taking things into prison - you are going to prison. Children or no children.

"I am trying to help you because it’s clear as clear can be that your choices about the men you choose to associate with and be intimate with are disastrous.”

Stubbs pleaded guilty to possessing class C drug pregablin with intent to supply, possessing class C drug oxymetholone with intent to supply and to conveying a prohibited mobile phone and cables into HMP Lindholme after the incident on June 19, 2019.

Stubbs was sentenced on January 29 to eight months of custody suspended for 18 months.
