‘World’s worst sailors’ rescued in Doncaster after boat they stole begins to sink
Two boat thieves got that sinking feeling after the craft they stole sprung a leak.
Two men were arrested on suspicion of theft of a boat in Doncaster on Thursday.
Around 3pm officers were called to Chappell Drive, to reports that two men had stolen a boat and were making their getaway upstream on the River Don.
A spokesman for Doncaster Central Neighbourhood Policing Team posted on Facebook: “Unfortunately these master criminals had not realised that the boat had a hole in it, and they had no oars.
“Thankfully they were rescued by a passing barge, before we had to waste the time of the fire service trying to rescue the world's worst sailors.”
"Once brought back to shore, officers arrested the wannabe pirates.”
They are now in our cells letting the rum wear off before they get interviewed."
The boat was later returned to its owner.
