Woman rescued from flats arson

A WOMAN has been rescued by firefighters after arsonists set fire to a block of flats.

The woman in her 40s was rescued from the living room of a fourth floor flat and was conscious, the fire service said.

Crews were called to the blaze at Lonsdale House in Shaftsbury Avenue, Intake, at around 7.45pm yesterday after a fire was started in a communal area. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the premises.

Police and paramedics also attended.

The resident did not attend hospital, and an investigation found that the fire had been started deliberately, a fire service spokesman said.
