A woman is due in court accused of coughing at Doncaster police officers and claiming she had coronavirus.

The woman, who has not yet been named, has been charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

It is alleged that she coughed and made the Covid-19 claim while officers were dealing with a serious incident in the Hexthorpe area in the early hours of yesterday.

She is due to appear at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court today.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested in the town centre yesterday after coughing at a PCSO and shouting ‘I hope you get coronavirus and die’.

He remains in custody as the investigation continues.

A number of people have been charged with offences relating to assaults on emergency workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Some have been jailed and others have received suspended prison sentences and curfews.
