A police watchdog has launched an investigation into the conduct of a group Doncaster officers, after receiving reports of an incident of ‘police brutality’.
The incident took place on Saturday evening outside the Carphone Warehouse shop in Doncaster town centre, where officers were arresting two men on suspicion of affray.
Mark Reece, who was in the area at the time of the incident, claims he saw officers going ‘overboard’ with their treatment of the two men.
Mr Reece, of Lister Avenue, Balby, filmed the incident on his mobile phone.
Mr Reece uploaded the video to his personal Facebook page on Saturday night, and since then it has received over 190,000 views and been shared more than 3,000 times.
He made an official complaint about the conduct of officers involved in the incident on August 3.
A South Yorkshire police spokesman said: Officers attended a public order incident on Baxter Gate in Doncaster Town Centre on Saturday, 1 August.
Two men were arrested for affray and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
A third party, who was in the area at the time but not involved in the incident, attended at College Road Police Station on Monday, 3 August, to make an official complaint.
The Force’s Professional Standards department are in receipt of the complaint and are investigating the allegations that have been made.
