Two more arrests over morning attack on 81-year-old man in Rotherham

Two more men have been arrested in connection with a serious assault on an 81-year-old man in Rotherham.

Mushin Ahmed was on his way to morning prayers when he was attacked and left with serious head injuries on Fittzwilliam Road, East Dene, on Monday, August 10.

Two men have already been charged over the attack and a further two arrests have now been made.

A 29-year-old man from Dalton was arrested on Tuesday, with a 24-year-old man from Thrybergh arrested this morning.

Detective Chief Inspector Zaf Ali, from South Yorkshire Police’s Crime Unit, said: “Both men remain in police custody on suspicion of section 18 assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent.”

Damien Hunt, 29, of Doncaster Road, Rotherham and Kieran John Rice, 21, of Oakes Meadow, Rotherham, have already been charged.

Rice has also been charged with possession of a controlled drug.

The elderly man remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
