Three men are under arrest today following a shooting in Doncaster.
A firearm was heard being fired in the Frederick Street area of Mexborough, at 6.10pm yesterday.
Inquiries in and around the crime scene led police to a car believed to have been in the area at the time of the shooting.
At around 2.50am today officers from Hertfordshire Police stopped the vehicle and three men - aged 24, 26 and 27 - were arrested.
Detective Inspector Mark Monteiro, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “At this stage we have not received any information or found any evidence that anyone has been injured as a result of the incident.
“I understand this will be worrying for those living locally but I believe this was a targeted incident and do not consider there to be any wider danger to residents.
“To reassure members of the community we have increased the footprint of neighbourhood officers in the area and I would encourage anyone who was in the Frederick Street area yesterday evening and saw anything which could relate to this incident to contact police.”
A force spokesman added: “At 6.10pm officers were called to reports that gun shots had been heard in the Frederick Street area of Mexborough.
“Following forensic examination of the scene by specialist officers it was established that a weapon had been fired at the location. Further work to trace a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident was undertaken.
“During the evening, South Yorkshire Police worked with other forces across the country as the vehicle travelled south.
“At around 2.50am this morning Hertfordshire Police stopped the vehicle and three men were arrested.
“The men, aged 24, 26 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of firearm offences and area being held in custody in Hertforshire, where South Yorkshire officers are travelling to interview them.”
