Three houses raided in Doncaster police drugs action

We brought a community policing team back to Edlington Police Station – and then announced our presence to suspected criminals with drugs raids the next day, writes Insp Adrian Luscombe.

The police station was re-opened on February 24, with a big event that saw our partner organisations join us and the local community at the building on Nelson Road.

That was about community engagement.

But the next day saw us turn to enforcement, and we acted on three drugs warrants on streets in Edlington.

We wanted to show organised criminals in the area that we mean business. The result of those warrants was one arrest for possession of drugs.

The day before the police station re-opened, we had made two arrests on Dukes Crescent, Edlington, for possession with intent to supply of class A and B drugs. It came after officers visited a house with an unrelated inquiry, and came across the drugs.

Since the opening, we have also seen a drop-off in antisocial behaviour and associated criminality, and there is more engagement and enforcement planned.

But we have seen some displacement of antisocial behaviour to Warmsworth, around the library, shops and the park near the end of Edlington Lane. It has seen youths being abusive to people and general nuisance. We have identified some suspects on CCTV so we are trying to look at diversion and enforcement, and to nip it in the bud.

In Mexborough we are continuing with Operation Drum Alpha, against organised crime. March 5 saw us seize 450 cannabis plants on High Street, with a £150,000 street value. Investigations continue. There are no arrests yet, but it has caused disruption to the criminals.

Mexborough also saw a rise in nuisance off-road bikers, but that seems to have fallen since we had our off-road bikes team out.

This month, we took significant action against organised crime in Denaby, with raids on properties on Danum Court and Cliff View, on March 12, and Tadcaster Close on March 11.

Class A and B drugs were seized at Don Court and a man arrested.

Finally, please be aware we have seen a number of cases of theft of catalytic converters in Bentley and Adwick.
