They were quizzed yesterday after being arrested over the murder of Jerry Appicella, aged 51, whose body was found in his house on Craganour Place, Denaby Main, on Sunday.

Police officers were called to the property after receiving calls of concern for the welfare of the occupant.

It is believed that Mr Appicella was involved in an altercation with a group of people on Tuesday, December 3 in an alleyway leading to Hickleton Street in Denaby Main prior to his death.

Enquiries suggest he then walked to his home address where his body was found last weekend.

A post mortem revealed Mr Appicella died as a result of head injuries.

Detectives investigating the incident said they are not releasing the age of the three girls arrested over the incident ‘for operational reasons’.
