'Such a terrifying and heartbreaking experience': Family speak out after ram raid at Doncaster shop

CCTV and mobile phone footage captured the moment a gang of ram raiders attempted to break into the Go Local Extra store on Imperial Crescent, Town Moor, Doncaster, in the early hours of Saturday, October 3.

The raiders struck at around 4.30am and were filmed using a van to repeatedly reverse into the front of the convenience store.

But they fled the scene after being disturbed by the owners of the shop, who live in the flat above.

They raiders hurled racial abuse at the shop owners as they made their getaway in the van and a silver Renault Clio.

Riya Sethi said: “On Saturday morning, between 4.30 - 4.40am, Go Local Extra on Imperial Crescent, Town Moor, was ram raided by at least three people.

“As far as we are aware they drove from Zetland Road onto our road and also left that way.

“This is a family run business and this shop is pretty much apart of the family. We’re community people and could never understand why someone would do this to us.

“The level of damage occurred is unimaginable as you can tell from the videos.

“Myself and my family live above the shop, so not only was this an invasion of our shop but our home too.

"This was such a terrifying and heartbreaking experience, the whole property shook.

“In the first video there’s audio of the criminals saying racial slurs and violent threats.

“What has happened is so devastating, we won’t allow something like this to shake us or the community.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped.

“If anyone has any information, possible CCTV of the van or car in the surrounding area, then please contact myself or the police.”

Local residents have expressed their disgust at the ram raid.

Emily Friar said it was ‘disgusting behaviour’ and Sarah Molloy-Colthirst added: “They could have pulled your building down and ended up killing you all with the force they used.

“They should be done for attempted murder if they are caught.”
