A South Yorkshire stalker who harassed his ex-partner has been jailed

Sheffield Crown Court heard how Gareth Davies, 33, of Rectory Street, in Epworth, Doncaster, admitted committing harassment after he repeatedly hounded his ex after they separated in December.

Susan Evans, prosecuting, said Davies persistently and constantly phoned and texted the complainant and he started sending texts of a threatening nature and phoned her over 50 times on her birthday and shouted through her letter box.

Ms Evans said: “The complainant said there has been behaviour that is completely unacceptable and he has had a serious impact on her life.”

Ms Evans added that Davies also tried to climb into her Doncaster home through a window on February 18.

Davies also opened her front door on February 23, according to Ms Davies, and the complainant had to force it closed and he smashed a glass frame before reversing his van into a garden wall.

The defendant, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to harassment, which amounted to stalking, and he also admitted three counts of driving while disqualified and three counts of driving without insurance.

Katie Rafter, defending, said Davies, who has been remanded in custody since March 4, accepts he is an alcoholic. She argued it is alcohol which is likely to have fuelled his offending.

Judge Roger Thomas QC sentenced Davies to six-months of custody and banned him from driving for four-years and three-months.

Davies was also given a three-year restraining order.
