South Yorkshire Police made the discovery as part of a “pre-emptive” operation in the county.

Officers stopped a vehicle on the M18 just outside Thorne, Doncaster and found wads of notes wrapped in elastic bands inside two supermarket shopping bags.

They estimate the total amount to be in the region of 250 thousand pounds.

One man was arrested after the discovery.
