Police officers in South Yorkshire have completed a boxing course in a bid to deliver a knockout blow to anti-social behaviour.
Officers from across the county took part in the course as part of the SportFX South Yorkshire project, which encourages young people to stay off the streets and channel their energy into sport and fitness.
The course was delivered by coaches from England Boxing, the national governing body for amateur boxing.
The day-long course taught officers about health and safety, warm up and cool down sessions, lesson planning as well as basic boxing skills.
Officers will use their new qualification to work alongside coaches at the Sport FX South Yorkshire boxing sessions soon to be launched in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster.
PCSO Craig Butcher, who runs Sport FX South Yorkshire, said: “This was a great opportunity for our officers to be trained by coaches who have worked with the best boxers in the country.
“The day was a real success and really put our officers through their paces.”
Ben Stewart, of England Boxing, said: “Boxing has a unique ability to really engage hard-to-reach young people.”
