South Yorkshire man spared prison after assaulting woman and twice making threats of violence

A South Yorkshire man had been given a suspended prison sentence after he assaulted a woman after twice making threats of violence against her, court records show.

Alex John Benjamin Rooke appeared before Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 21, where he admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and making threats of violence against the woman, records show.

Records show that the 33-year-old, of Westcoe Avenue, Barnsley, assaulted the woman in the Doncaster area on September 3, 2020, before assaulting her over a week later on September 12.

Rooke made further threats towards the same woman after he had assaulted her, on December 11, records show.

Magistrates have Rooke a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 24 months. They also ordered him to cooperate with the Probation Service and complete a 32-day building better relationships programme.

He was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £128 victim surcharge.
