Sheffield Crown Court heard how Doncaster officers raided the home of 55-year-old sex-offender John Jacques and discovered he had breached a previous Sexual Harm Prevention Order by using computer internet cleaning software.

But Conor Quinn, prosecuting, said following examination of the defendant’s computer indecent images and videos were found including category A, B and C footage with category A being the most serious.

The Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Jeremy Richardson QC, told Jacques: “You plainly have an acute problem. That is self-evident from your antecedent record where since the year 2000 you have involved yourself from time-to-time in serious offending relating to indecent images of children.”

Jacques, who has previous convictions for possessing, making and distributing indecent images, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photos after the raid in August, 2017.

The court heard Jacques is a prisoner at HMP Whatton, in Nottinghamshire, after he was jailed for breaching his SHPO in August, 2017, and he can only be released when the parole board feels it is safe to do so.

Judge Richardson explained that while Jacques has been awaiting his release he has already served in excess of any custodial sentence that would ordinarily have been imposed.

So Jacques was sentenced to a two-year conditional discharge but was warned if he re-offends he will be re-sentenced.

Jacques was also made the subject of an SHPO for life.
