Sex offender arrested for breaking notification rules in Doncaster day of action

A man has been arrested in Doncaster for breaking rules put in place for registered sex offenders who are back in the community.

Police have revealed they made the arrest in Balby for breach of sex offender notification requirements, as part of a day of action taking part across the whole of Doncaster.

It was one of a number of arrests made for various crimes, in locations spread around Doncaster, along with patrols which have been carried out to check people have been been observing the laws that were brought in to enforce social distancing over the coronavirus.

Officers also carried out drugs warrants, in Bentley and in Balby, where a ‘substantial’ amounts of cannabis was recovered. An arrest has been made in relation to each raid.

Police revealed another man was arrested in Doncaster town centre who was wanted for theft. A woman in Balby was arrested for breach of a court order, and another man in Balby was arrested for domestic related harassment.

Officers also had a road check site set up on Bawtry Road, where 287 vehicles were stopped. The drivers were spoken to, to establish whether they were out on the roads legitimately, and also had their driving documents checked.

High visibility Covid 19 engagement and education patrols were conducted across Doncaster, with help from mounted offiers.

Sgt Steve Roberts said of the Covid rules: “We have now issued 70 penalty notices to people in Doncaster who persistently breach the regulations.”
