Serial Doncaster shop thief who targeted same store is jailed

A Mexborough man has been jailed after repeatedly targeting the same store and stealing a variety of food items, court records show.

Gage Hughes appeared before Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on October 15, where he admitted three shoplifting charges.

Records show that Gage, 27, of Hirst Gate, Mexborough, entered the Co-op store, in Adwick Road, Mexborough, on July 31, and stole eight jars of coffee valued at £63.50.

He next entered the same store on August six and again stole eight jars of coffee to a similar value.

And on August 6 he returned once again and stole chocolate, valued at £30.

A fourth offence of attempting to steal two bottles of whiskey from the same shop on August 18, and a fifth of stealing two jars of coffee on September 27 were dropped by the prosecution.

Magistrates jailed Hughes for a total of 12 weeks for the three offences and ordered him to pay a total of £157.50 in compensation to the store.
