Serial Doncaster offender jailed over railway crossing generator theft

Sheffield Crown Court heard today, October 5, how Lee Sey, aged 42, of Restover Lodge, on Ten Pound Walk, Doncaster, cut his way through a fence with others at Gate House Lane, Doncaster, and wrenched out a generator which they fled with on the back of a van.
David Ward, prosecuting, said the three men were seen cutting through a fence and stealing the generator before they fled in a van and caused damage to a nearby car during the raid on August 25.

Hide AdJudge Sarah Wright told Sey: “You and two others cut through a metal fence to steal an electric generator valued at £31,000 providing power to a nearby railway crossing.”
Police tracked down the van and Sey was the driver and only person found with the vehicle and the generator, according to Mr Ward.
Sey, who has 35 convictions, pleaded guilty to the theft, and admitted causing damage, driving without insurance and a licence, driving without due care and attention, failing to provide a specimen, and driving while disqualified.
Rebecca Stevens, defending, said the defendant was recruited and he was not involved in the planning.

Hide AdShe added Sey has spent most of his life addicted to drugs and after his brother died of a drug overdose he wants to make amends.
Judge Sarah Wright told Sey: “Given the nature of the offences involved you present a real risk and danger to the public.”
She sentenced Sey to 28 months of custody.
