Police pay for Doncaster children to play sport

More Doncaster children will be able to play sports for free to keep them off the streets thanks to a £5,000 grant from the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

Dr Alan Billings has donated the cash to South Yorkshire Sport, which helps deliver the SportFX project run by South Yorkshire Police, which uses sport to get children from all backgrounds mixing and engaged in activities to keep them out of trouble.

The SportFX project offers free boxing, football and dance sessions in Balby Carr, New Edlington, Woodlands and Mexborough.

They are held in areas where there have been issues with anti-social behaviour.

Dr Billings said: “The new funding is to ensure that boxing sessions in four schools across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield become sustainable.”
