Police issue warning after drugs, knives, batons and steroids are sent in the post

Steroids, drugs, knives and batons have been seized by the police after parcels sent to South Yorkshire addresses were intercepted.

A warning has now been issued by South Yorkshire Police that despite an increase in online shopping during the Coronavirus pandemic, checks are still being made and anyone tempted to order illegal items will be traced and prosecuted.

Police forces across the country are working with the UK Border Agency to ensure illegal items are not imported.Since November, officers in Barnsley have prosecuted 15 people for the importation of illegal items from overseas.

The parcels included steroids, knives, batons and controlled drugs.

Chief Inspector Paul Ferguson said:” Online shopping isn’t anonymous and by working together with agencies we are able to intercept the items, see where the order has come from and see its intended destination.

“We will continue to stop dangerous items from entering our district and harming our communities.”
