Police were called in after a grave was set on fire in a shocking late night attack at a Doncaster cemetery.

Officers raced to Rose Hill Cemetery in Ascot Avenue, Cantley last night after reports of screaming from within the cemetery.

A nearby resident who declined to be named said: “I went outside at around 11.15pm to water my plants and could hear a male voice screaming from the cemetery.

“I couldn't work out what was being said so I called the police. When the police arrived I heard them tell the officers that their father’s grave had been set alight and could they help.”

It is understood that the grave is only a couple of weeks old.

Two South Yorkshire Police patrol cars were seen patrolling local streets after the incident after reports that the grave had been set on fire at around 11pm.
