Police appeal after early morning armed robbery at Doncaster store

Police have launched an investigation after an early morning robbery at a Doncaster shop.

Officers were called to the shop in Beckett Road, Wheatley at around 6.20am today following reports of an armed robbery.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The caller reported that a man entered the store and demanded money from the till while brandishing a weapon.

“Enquiries are on-going and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 176 of 21 May 2020.”

There have been unconfirmed reports that a meat cleaver used in the attack has been found in a nearby alleyway.

Eye witnesses said there has been a high level of police activity in the area throughout the morning with officers sealing off part of an alleyway in nearby Jubilee Road.

No details have been issued on whether anyone was injured in the incident.
