Police adopt police stations in South Yorkshire

Police officers in Rotherham have ‘adopted’ post offices in a bid to hand out crime prevention advice to more residents, alert them to services and make them feel safer

The scheme, backed by the Rotherham Older People’s Forum and Age UK Rotherham, could be rolled out to other areas if it proves a success.

The scheme sees a dedicated Police Community Support Officer assigned to all franchised Post Office branches in Rotherham.

Chief Superintendent Jason Harwin, District Commander for Rotherham, said: “In response to the concerns raised by members of our community we have launched this scheme that we hope proves invaluable to both our residents and to our officers.

“We are always striving to improve the service we give to the people of Rotherham and I hope that by having a presence in local Post Offices, the more vulnerable members of our community feel reassured and better informed about the crime and safety issues that affect them.”
