Partner of Doncaster woman found dead in her home ‘arrested on suspicion of murder’

The partner of a woman found dead in her home in Doncaster has revealed that he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The partner, who we have decided not to name, posted on Facebook that he had been arrested and quizzed before being released by South Yorkshire Police as enquiries continue.

Claire, aged 35, was found unconscious in her home just before 9.30pm on Saturday, July 11 and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said a 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and later released under investigation.

A post mortem examination proved inconclusive.

The man said he started a relationship with Claire after meeting her in Australia.

He posted: “I was what some might call Claire's ‘partner’ only because having met her in Australia I realised she was a force of nature.

"Yes, I was arrested on caution of murder because I went to her house after not hearing from her for 36 hours.

"Her parents asked me to and I'm glad I found her, not them.

"Yes I was arrested on caution of murder. You would be to if you had have found her, it's procedure. I was free hours later.”

He added: “Claire was a shining light in the community. Make sure it stays that way.”

Detectives investigating the circumstances surrounding Claire’s death are trying to establish her movements in the days before.

Paying tribute to her on Facebook Cashman posted: “Gutted. I knew Claire, she was a diamond.”

Clare Credland added: “She was the most beautiful girl...a pleasure to know.”
