In total, officers carrying out the operation checked 62 vehicles with a speed gun. Of those six were recorded travelling over the legal limit.

PCSO Andy Ireland said: “Their details have been sent to the Safer Roads Partnership for processing.

“Most Road Traffic Collisions are as a result of excess speed. One way of slowing offending vehicles down is to prosecute the drivers. The speed limit is there for a reason.

“If you have any concerns over speeding vehicles in your area, please contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 or use our online reporting facility.”

It was the latest in a spate of operations on speeding on residential streets run by officers from the force’s Doncaster Central officers.

On Tuesday February 16, support officers had carried out a similar operation on Carr House Road, again after complaints from residents about the problem.

But PCSO David Twigg said they did not find anyone breaking the speed limit during the time that they were checking.

He added: “Local Police Community Support Officers will be conducting further such operations in the near future.

He added that three days earlier, on Saturday February 13, officers had also carried out a mobile speed gun operation on Bennetthorpe, near the town centre.

He said: “This was in response to complaints received from local residents regarding speeding vehicles in the area. At this time, no vehicles were witnessed travelling over the legal limit.”

Last month, Doncaster Council revealed it was installing ‘state-of-the art’ speed cameras will be put up along a Doncaster road labelled a ‘collision black-spot’.
