AN 89-year-old man has had cash stolen during a burglary after a man posing as a gardener called at his door.
A man called at the pensioner’s home in Nutwell Lane, Old Cantley, asking if any gardening work needed doing. He left when the victim said there was no work.
A short time later the pensioner discovered money had been stolen.
The cold caller was around 20-year-old, 5ft 10ins and of medium build. He was tanned, had dark medium length hair and was wearing a light coloured T-shirt and dark trousers.
PC Lisa Kelly said: “We would like to speak to the man who attended the property as we believe he may be able to assist with the investigation.
“I would always advise people wherever possible, to ensure all windows and doors are locked, even when inside the property, to prevent distraction and opportunistic thieves from striking.”
The man visited the house between 4pm and 5.15pm on Wednesday, June 15. Police only released details about the incident this morning.
Anybody with information is asked to contact police on 0114 220 2020 quoting incident number 843 of June 15.
