Victims of domestic abuse in the Dearne are being offered a new emergency device aimed at protecting them from their attackers.
South Yorkshire Police has rolled out the TecSOS system, a specially-adapted phone which allows high-risk victims to contact the emergency control room immediately using a speed dial facility.
The service is offered round-the-clock and senior police officers say it can save valuable response time in locating victims who feel they are in danger.
Jo Byrne, assistant chief constable of South Yorkshire Police, said: “Every second is vital in cases of domestic abuse and introducing this system should shave valuable minutes off our response time, allowing us to get to victims quickly and prevent the offender inflicting any further harm. This move demonstrates our commitment to tackling domestic abuse.”
