Misconduct hearing for South Yorkshire cop accused of 'improper relationship'

A serving police officer is to attend a misconduct hearing over an allegation that he had an ‘improper relationship’ with someone he met during the course of his policing work.

PC Darren Kimberley is accused of breaching the standards of professional behaviour expected of an officer by establishing an ‘improper relationship’ with someone met through work who ‘may have been vulnerable to an abuse of power or trust’.

It is also alleged that on a date in January last year the officer ‘engaged in inappropriate conduct/ behaviour with that person whilst on duty in uniform in a public place’.

The two-day hearing, which will be held in private, is set to begin on November 23.

South Yorkshire Police said: “It is alleged that the officer’s conduct breached the standards of professional behaviour in the following ways .

“That between April 2015 and July 2018, the officer established and pursued an improper relationship with a person whom he came into contact with during the course of his work and who may have been vulnerable to an abuse of power or trust.

“That on January 29, 2019, having established and pursued an improper relationship with a person whom the officer came into contact with during the course of his work, the officer engaged in inappropriate conduct/ behaviour with that person whilst on duty in uniform, in a public place.

“The hearing will be held in private to protect personal sensitive and confidential information of a member of the public in this case.”
