Mining company to be sentenced

A DONCASTER based mining company is due to be sentenced for safety failings that caused the death of four workers.

UK Coal Mining Ltd is due to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court today and tomorrow following separate incidents at collieries in Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands.

The company, of Harworth Park, Blyth Road, Harworth admitted four breaches of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act at an earlier hearing, following the death of the four men.

Three of the deaths occurred at Daw Mill colliery, near Coventry and one at Welbeck colliery, Meden Vale between June 2006 and November 2007
