Man threatens OAP, 82, with knife and takes purse

A KNIFE-wielding robber has left an elderly women shaken after snatching the pensioner’s purse in a targeted attack.

The 82-year-old had just collected her pension from a post office along Richmond Road in Scawsby, and had begun walking in the direction of the Roman Ridge pub when a young man approached and threatened her with a knife.

He demanded she hand over her bag.

He then fled towards Barnsley Road in the direction of Ridgewood School when the frightened woman gave him the purse.

Police are appealing for anybody to come forward who may have information about the shocking incident.

The robber is white and between 18 and 20-years-old.

He is around 5ft 10ins tall and of medium build.

He was wearing a tan coloured tracksuit top and light coloured trousers.

The incident happened on Tuesday, just before 9.30am.

Pc Craig Nicol said: “This incident has really shaken the woman up and I am urging the public to come forward if they have any information on the incident or of the identity of the man.

“We believe this may be a targeted attack and that the man may have been watching the woman before she went into the post office.

“I would always advise people to be aware of their surroundings, to remain vigilant as to who is around them and if in any uncertainty, they should contact the police.”
