Man arrested over face mask thefts from Doncaster Royal Infirmary

A man has been arrested and charged with stealing items including face masks from Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Police today revealed that they had been called to the hospital yesterday afternoon (Thursday), after reports that the man had stolen face-masks, pens and various other items at the hospital, which is on the front line in the fight against the coronavirus.

He was arrested at the scene and has been interviewed by police.

Sgt Steve Roberts, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “He has been bailed to appear at Doncaster Magistrates Court on May 19.”

The DRI is the main centre in the area for treating patients with Covid 19.

NHS figures yesterday showed there have now been 95 deaths in the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals Trust region.

The figure was raised significantly yesterday after deaths in care homes were included in the total.

Wednesday saw Doncaster record its worst day during the pandemic, with 11 deaths.
