Jail term for man over spate of burglaries

A Man has been jailed for house burglaries in Doncaster.

The raids took place during a 12 hour spree which took place last year.

Nicky Relton, aged 20, of Broom Court, Dunscroft pleaded guilty at Sheffield Crown Court to two counts of burglary and was locked up for four years and six months for raids in Wheatley Hills, and Edenthorpe.

A second man, Jamie Walker, aged 19, of Burtonlees Court, Cantley, admitted two counts of handling stolen goods and one of burglary, and received a six month sentence suspended for one year.

The raids happened in the borough in September last year.

They prompting police investigations.

The court heard that three properties were broken into between 7.45am and 7pm on Tuesday, September 25 last year.

The homes were on Sandall Park Drive in Wheatley Hills, Cemetery Road in Hatfield Woodhouse and Thorpehall Road in Edenthorpe.

Jewellery was stolen from all three homes.

In addition, cash was taken from the property in Wheatley Hills.

The two men were arrested following a police investigation.

Relton was charged with the burglaries in Wheatley Hills and Edenthorpe and Walker was charged with handling stolen goods in connection to them.

Walker was also charged with the burglary in Hatfield Woodhouse.

DC Scott Barley said: “Burglary is an incredibly intrusive and disturbing crime that often leaves victims feeling violated and no longer safe in their own home, whether anything was stolen or not.

“I hope the sentence imposed reinforces the message from South Yorkshire Police that we will not tolerate any type of criminality.”
