Hunt for gunmen goes on after armed gang fire shots at Doncaster house

Police are still hunting an armed gang who fired shots at a Doncaster house and burst into the property in a late night attack.

Gunmen burst into the house on Thorne Road, Wheatley on Sunday night, smashing windows with gunshots and causing damage to posessions inside the property before fleeing.

Nearby residents reported hearing a ‘volley of gunfire’ with one witness saying they had heard up to 20 shots.

Police have confirmed guns were used in the attack and a South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “There was evidence of a firearms discharge found at the scene, and we believe this was the cause of the damage to some of the windows of the property.”

Eyewitnesses reported seeing bullet holes in windows of the property in the aftermath of the incident.

Police were called to the house at approximately 10.40pm after receiving reports of the disturbance. Nobody was injured.

Officers remained in the area throughout Monday, and enquiries are still underway to identify and trace those involved.

One eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, said they had seen the group of men emerge from two vehicles before attacking the house.

They added: “There were clear bullet holes in the windows when I went past.

“The windows to the left and right of the door had small round holes in, with the glass around the holes stressed about six inches - so it could only be a bullet in my mind.”
