Heartbroken family release picture of man who died after being hit by car near Doncaster

A 68-year-old who died following a collision in Mexborough over the weekend has been formally identified as Michael Boland.

Emergency services were called to Greens Way at about 5.25pm on Saturday (January 4) following reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

A black BMW is reported to have been travelling along Greens Way, from Swinton when it hit Mr Boland, who is said to have been crossing the road from the train station side towards the town centre.

South Yorkshire Police said: "Mr Boland was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"His family have chosen to release this picture of him and have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."

A 22-year-old Mexborough man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation.

Those with information are urged to call 101 quoting incident number 617 of January 4.
