A hand grenade has been found in the garden of a house in Thurnscoe and taken away to be destroyed by bomb disposal experts.
The device was uncovered in Merrill Road by a youngster yesterday evening and police were called to the scene.
It is understood the grenade was handled safely by police and taken away from the address at about 7.30pm.
It was not clear how long the hand grenade had been buried. Investigations are ongoing.
