One of our dog-handlers began pursuing a car in Wheatley on February 8, but before other officers arrived to help, the four occupants tried to flee the vehicle.

They were swiftly arrested by the officer and his dog. Two were later charged with vehicle crimes, driving offences and possession of drugs.

On January 21 a commercial property on Market Road was attacked. The victim was called by their alarm company and found a window smashed and a car seat taken. Officers arrived quickly and arrested two suspects. The car seat was recovered.

In Wheatley, a man was arrested on January 28 for breaking into a property on Thorne Road.

On the same day we arrested a wanted man in Rossington who was being recalled to prison.

We have seen success against burglars too, making three significant arrests. We suspect they had been involved in two burglaries just prior to their arrest. Two were charged with these. A third was charged with these as well as three more burglaries.

On January 26, two were arrested after a burglary on Hindburn Close, Bessacarr.

Our increased patrols and targeting of suspects has led to a reduction in burglaries, but residents should remain vigilant.

Also on January 26, we recovered 160 cannabis plants from an address on Stoneclose Avenue, Hexthorpe. Nobody was present at the address or has been arrested since. Another cannabis factory was dismantled on Wentworth Road, Wheatley, on February 12, with 300 plants.

Finally, please avoid giving money to beggars in the town centre – we have been working with Doncaster Council to ensure our homeless people have all been offered accommodation and intense support and into places of safety. This support has been rejected by some who have made the choice to try and get cash for drugs.

Please sign up for our police alerts on www.southyorks.police.uk. And we have an engagement session on our Facebook page between 5.30 and 6.30pm on Thursday February 27.
