South Yorkshire Police have revealed the action has been threatened in Armthorpe, where officers have received a stream of complaints over antisocial behaviour happening in a caravan by a resident in front of a property.

Officers have described the caravan as a focal point of antisocial behaviour.

There have been allegations of shouting, swearing and drug abuse, which led to officers from the Doncaster East neighbourhood policing team issuing a legal warning notice on Tuesday.

Sgt Michael Miles said in an emailed ‘police alert’ to residents he and his team had met with an individual in Armthorpe with a ‘compulsion towards shouting and swearing’.

He said: "He is also responsible for using a caravan in the front of his parents' property for drug use, attracting the kind of other youths that you may imagine are interested in that sort of thing.

"This problem has been highlighted to us as this caravan is causing tension and anxiety within the local neighbourhood. After our attendance, the young gentleman would not see sense. Following from this, an off-road bike at the address was seized as it was suspected to have been stolen.

"To ensure that his parents take action in dealing with their son and their caravan (a focal point of ASB on the street) properly, they were issued with a warning notice under section 76 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014.

"This is essentially their chance to avoid us using powers to close their private dwelling, which if ratified by a court could include the occupants. This chance is taken by ensuring that complaints and intelligence around the address stop.”

Officers have not disclosed the address of the caravan.

It is not the first time police in Doncaster have used laws aimed to crack down on antisocial behaviour.

In August police used warning notices to motorists involved in a nuisance car meeting at Doncaster Lakeside.

And last year, police obtained an order to ban two youths from gathering with groups and from going inside certain public buildings on the Woodlands estate, in Doncaster.
