The huge sum of money was found when officers ordered the driver of a Chevrolet to pull over this week, yet the occupants denied all knowledge of the cash.

“The team stopped it and to the occupants’ amazement we found around £75,000 in cash on the back seat,” said South Yorkshire Police’s Operational Support unit.

“At this point the conversation from the occupants went down the lines of ‘oh, I've never seen that before, honest’.

“The conversation only got worse because the driver then didn't know his passenger despite them being in the same car together.

“Anyway, we seized the cash and whilst doing so our checks revealed the driver wasn't insured on the car so he collected six points and a fine.”
