Driver hospitalised and placed under arrest after police chase in South Yorkshire

A 42-year-old man has been placed under arrest in hospital after crashing into three vehicles during a police chase in South Yorkshire.

Police said the chase began after a red Seat Leon failed to stop for officers during a patrol in Rotherham shortly after 11am on Sunday (3 May).

Following a “short pursuit”, the Seat crashed on Hollings Lane and hit two other cars and a van. The incident took place close to the Ravenfield Arms pub, according to unconfirmed reports on social media.

Two people, including the Seat driver, have been taken to hospital with “minor injuries”, police confirmed.

The driver has been placed under arrest under suspicion of suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance.

First South Yorkshire said the 116 service would terminate at Thrybrough as a result of a temporary road closure following the crash. The road has since been reopened.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Shortly after 11am this morning (Sunday 3 May), police were on a patrol in Rotherham when a red Seat Leon failed to stop for officers.

“Following a short pursuit, the Seat is reported to have crashed in Hollings Lane, colliding with two other cars and a van.

“The driver of the Seat, a 42-year-old man, has also been taken to hospital and placed under arrest. He has been detained under suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance.”
