Mr Adlington added the same complainant saw the defendant with his daughter and he passed a key to her when the defendant threatened to knock his head off.

Brodie also attended the complainant’s home in November demanding money and his phone from his partner and he insulted and threatened the complainant.

Cheryl Dudley, defending, said Brodie has alcohol issues and there had been some animosity between him and the complainant.

Judge Sarah Wright said there was a confrontation between the defendant and the complainant and they had both been drinking before the defendant struck the complainant.

She told Brodie: “You are very fortunate he recovered from those injuries because the courts see many such cases of assault which cause death.”

Brodie was sentenced to 22 months of custody. He was also given a five-year restraining order to keep away from the complainant and his wife.
