A man has been arrested after a toddler was allegedly left alone in a car for a long time in Doncaster town centre today (Friday).

Alarmed shoppers contacted emergency services after they noticed the three-year-old girl laid on her back in a Corsa car on Young Street.

A police officer smashed the window and the girl was checked over by paramedics. She was fine.

Officers arrested a 19-year-old Hull man at the scene on suspicion of cruelty to children.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police and the ambulance service were called at 11.15am to reports of a young girl alone in a car.

“There had been some concern as she was laid on her back but it was established that she had simply fallen asleep.

“The girl was safe and well. A man was being questioned by officers this afternoon.”
