Police raided the former home of Matthew Smith, aged, 25, now of Park Road, Askern, Doncaster, and discovered the images on his Compaq computer tower, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing on October15.

Andrew Smith, prosecuting, said police attended Trueman Street, Bentley, Doncaster, on January 18, 2018, after Smith had been accessing the dark web and they found seven category A images, 40 category B images and one category C image with category A being the worst.

Smith told police he had been accessing the dark web for other types of extreme images such as executions in Syria and he had come across the indecent images and saved them.

Judge Sarah Wright told Smith: “You made indecent images of children category A, B and C between September 2016 and January 18, 2018, when you were then aged 21.”

She added such images involved heartbreaking sexual offences against children and anyone who accesses these encourages others to make such material.

Smith, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to three offences of making indecent images.

Susan Fisher, defending, said there has been a delay with the case and it has been weighing heavily on Smith’s mind.

Judge Wright acknowledged Smith has a reasonable prospect of rehabilitation and sentenced him to a three-year community order with a Rehabilitation Actvity Requirement and a sex-offender treatment programme. He was made subject to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
