Doncaster men blasted by shotgun are jailed after rivals clash on estate

Thomas Maughan, 31, and Nathan Marshall, 24, along with another man still wanted by police, turned up the house in May armed with a spade and metal bar.

Marshall, 24, had driven the trio to the house in Aldesworth Road, Cantley, at around 10.30am on May 6.

Sheffield Crown Court heard how the pair approached a man and his sons, who were attacked by Maughan and Marshall.

Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp said they made off from the scene but returned moments later.

However, their victim had armed himself with a shotgun and fired it at Maughan from close range inflicting a gunshot wound to his shoulder prompting an immediate retreat.

Maughan was driven to Doncaster Royal Infirmary and underwent surgery, remaining in hospital for two weeks.

Marshall drove the car to a secluded spot and set it on fire in a bid to destroy evidence linking them to the attack on their rival earlier in the day.

Mr Sharp told the court that the police investigation uncovered no motive behind the attack but Marshall was said to have told officers it was “tit for tat”.

The prosecutor added that this would “strongly suggest criminal rivalries”.

Maughan, of Marshland Road, Moorends, admitted affray and possession of an offensive weapon and was jailed for 18 months.

Marshall, of Woodlea Grove, Armthorpe, admitted the same charges and a further count of arson. He was sentenced to 27 months in prison.

The dad who armed himself with the shotgun will be sentenced later at Sheffield Crown Court.
